Living Environment with Ms. Harwood
Hello! I am Ms. Harwood, an experienced educator with a passion for science and education. I have 11 years of teaching experience, 9 of which are with New York City Department of Education.
As a dynamic Living Environment teacher, my goal is to instill a love for biology in the minds of my students. Through engaging classroom activities, my goal is to make complex scientific concepts accessible to all learners, creating an inclusive and enriching classroom environment. Outside the classroom, I continue to learn through professional development, attending learning opportunities at Space Camp in Alabama and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. I am excited to embark on another year of discovery and learning, guiding my students to explore the wonders of the living world.
ABOUT LIVING ENVIRONMENT:
This is a class that ends in the Living Environment Regents Examination, opening the way to GRADUATION by fulfilling the Regents exam science requirement. It is a full year class and requires students to apply themselves to learning activities that are rigorous and college-preparatory. The class will involve many interesting activities centered on the topics covered during the course of the year. There will be many opportunities for scientific investigations during the laboratory component of the class. Each student must sit for at least 1200 minutes of lab time in order to meet the Regents requirement, so attendance is crucial to success. Tutoring will also be available at selected times over the course of the year. Our curriculum is transitioning to reflect New York State’s transition to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
