They have highlighted our diverse academies, extensive extracurricular activities, and the commitment of our staff and talented students, showcasing the essence of our community. once you're here on this Campus of South Brooklyn it doesn't feel like you are in South Brooklyn it transports January High School is a large Comprehensive High School we have over 2,200 students we have 256 members on staff we are an administration of 12 assistant principals and 1 principal and with inside of that structures that are set up that make it 1 high school but small communities inside so it's about building that community and those structures around the students so that they feel inclusive and a part of something bigger hi good morning how are you right here in the morning we set the tone as soon as are coming in so we really work on welcoming them good morning good morning good morning great energy positive energy with smiles and we greet them my name to really set the tone for the students days good morning beautiful people what I have for you guys is a proposal so thinking about all these amazing programs and the legacies that they have here at Dewey we were thinking about having a a sort of Time Capsule I knew right away I wanted to be a part of this school why because this is a very diverse school it mirrored a lot of the things that I loved about my high school growing up and I saw it and I said I want to be a part of this community I feel so comfortable in this building I come here and I know if something's wrong I could get it fixed in 2 2 everybody has value in this building you are going to find your click here like everyone has a group you could go to or just be with there's so many clubs activities Sports you could join I don't think you could ever be bored in the school which I love there's a lot of clubs here actually that were first started just by talking to the principal talking to a supervisor and they've blossomed into like amazing things that have accomplished like trofe fees and Wars become actual Sports whether you've played softball before whether you played basketball before whether you're a superstar whether you've never even picked up a ball before there's always a place for you on my team who remembers what we put in the apples what do we you have a bunch of opportunities that you can find little niches that are specific to you that you would really like so it's just a lot of things that you discover about yourself through these little classes or programs we have this is all 45 degree rollers crabwalk the students created this mural they came up with all the design concept so it's a whole present of what it is to be a dewy student and even different aspects within here you see some of the Academy aspects like the Law Academy the Art Academy do you see that as well as seeing the clubs do you have elements of the art Club the dance club trial technical theater it's all of that that makes Dewey as a staff and our students travel from all over Brooklyn and I think that that's because of the culture that is built here it is a safe and inclusive environment where they're able to express themselves without fear without rejection when they are entering here they know that their voices are heard it's so important to me when kids come in and have Smiles on their faces and they're happy to be there we want students to really know and to feel like this is their home
