3) What exactly is H.O.S.A?
H.O.S.A stands for Health Occupations Students of America.
H.O.S.A is a national organization for students interested in the HealthCare field.
Throughout the year, we learn about healthcare including: medical terms, CPR and First Aid.
We compete at the State and National level.
The competitions test our knowledge in the healthcare field including CPR skills, Public speaking, and H.O.S.A Bowl which tests our medical vocabulary.
We also participate in non-profit fundraisers.
This year we raised $5000 for Breast Cancer and $800 for Autism.
Breast cancer is a cancer that starts in the cells of the breast.
Worldwide, breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer after lung cancer
(10.4% of all cancer incidence, both sexes counted) and the fifth most common cause of cancer death
Autism is a brain development disorder that impairs social interaction and communication,
and causes restricted and repetitive behavior, all starting before a child is three years old.
We raised money for different diseases every year.
Please go to Ms. Amin or Ms. Pooler if you would like to donate. Every Dollar helps.
4) Did our school win any competitions?
Every year we have won state competitions and in the pas we've earned placement in National competition. The State competitions are usually held in the springs of Syracuse N.Y. Fees include registration, hotel and transportation.
